EN: Let’s continue with our travel log from Dubai, while my memory is still fresh, considering that right now I’m going through both diverse and intense experiences in Vietnam.

Apoi a alergat cand in stanga, cand in dreapta, sa vada toate florile si sa gaseasca macar una ruptă pe jos, ca sa mi-o ofere.

EN: On our second day there, we took a taxi after breakfast and all 6 of us (the 3 of us plus Adela, Radu and Alexandru) towards Miracle Garden. We had seen many pictures from there and it looked interesting. When we arrived at the entrance, we realized pretty quickly that Vlad will be the happiest about this place. There were many families with children, waiting in line to buy tickets just as in an amusement park. You have to expect to see a botanical garden, its uniqueness being not the diversity of the flowers, but the way they are arranged- in the shape of houses, kangaroos or even in the shape of an Emirates aircraft.  Why I am saying that Vlad liked it best? Because ever since we went in he saw the helium balloons and, in order to avoid a crisis, we bought him a Minion, which we tied to his stroller. Then he ran to the left and right, so he could see all the flowers and find at least one on the ground, which he could give to me. He was only still while eating an ice cream in Miracle Garden, under a flower tunnel.

From there we left to get lunch and we found a wonderful restaurant, which I highly recommend, if you ever get there: The Farm. It’s perfect for lunch, so you could look at its garden during the day. You have to try a tom yum soup, one of the best I have ever had.

We watched the sunset at Kite Beach. We were slightly confused by the fact that there were no kites… But when on the next day we asked another taxi driver to takes us to Kite Beach and we arrived in the same spot, we were sure that we are where we’re supposed to be, only the kite surfers were missing.

We had dinner at Seven Sands in JBR, which is the other end of the Jumeirah beach. There are lots of people there in the evening, but it’s very nice. We found a large playground for the kids, right next to the beach, which Vlad gladly explored. It was also there that Radu and I analyzed how many families there were around us. And that’s because it is the perfect destination for a vacation with the child. The hotels and restaurants are very good, the cleanliness on the streets, in the parks, everywhere is impeccable, there are plenty of playgrounds, including aqua lands and other indoor attractions. And, on top of it all, the warm looks which the locals give to children and their tolarence when they run off from a restaurant table, because he has seen something interesting on the walls. Every day Vlad was telling me, after someone else from the hotel was holding him, that: “I made a new friend again today.”

And since we have talked about parks, we decided to spend the next day at Atlantis, to be more precise at the Aquaventure Waterpark. We knew how excited the child was in a water park in Tenerife, so we wanted to try one out in Dubai. There are many, from what I understood, but we visited this one, because also really wanted to get to Dolphin Bay, to give a little kiss to the dolphins. Ever since I was little, I wanted to have this experience, which Vlad has already had at only 4 years old.  The dolphins there seemed very well taken care of and loved by their trainers. They were serious about certain rules, precisely out of respect for the dolphins. We danced with them, we hugged them, we gave them kisses, and in the end Vlad came to the conclusion: “Its skin is just as soft as yours, mum, it’s almost unreal.”

On our third day there (because the last one was with the flight home, so we didn’t have time for anything other than a swim in the hotel pool), we had a busy schedule, so we could check out as many attractions as possible. We started the day on the 148th floor of the tallest building in the world: Burj Khalifa. You can’t miss this if you are ever in Dubai. Well, those of you who are scared of heights, it’s understandable if you don’t go up. But other than that… it’s gorgeous! I never thought I would ever say that I am amazed by a sky scraper, but Burj Khalifa really is a beautiful building. Period. It’s beautiful in any moment of the day, and no matter where you look at it from- whether it’s from the outside or the inside. It conveys power, through its overwhelming height, but also elegance, through its curves. I am still pleasantly surprised by it while looking through the pictures.

We had lunch at Salt – a trailer which sales great burgers right on Kite Beach. It’s worth going there once, we trailer drivers felt right in our element. And we spent the evening in the desert. We really wanted to go to the desert, and because of the weather – a weird fog- we missed the morning trip. So we watched the sunset there, when the light is beautiful.

To get to the desert, a car will pick you up from the hotel and take you close to the dunes. Then other cars pick up the tourists and take them for a 15 minute drive, which- if you are scared easily- might seem like an eternity. Since we were with Vlad, we thought they would take us on a smoother ride. But they drive like lunatics! God, Vlad was laughing his heart out, and Radu and I couldn’t understand why we’re not falling over. The driver only had one hand on the steering wheel, that’s how relaxed and in control he was. Even though we were a bit scared, the part with the cars was my favorite and I recommend you try it out, because those drivers really know what they’re doing.

The cars then take you to base, a sort of open air restaurant, with many tables placed on the sand, with alluring carpets and pillows, around a big stage, where fakirs and belly dancers perform.

After a walk on the camel and after it went up and down the dunes for tens of times, Vlad yelled out loud: “I really love the desert.” It was his favorite experience in Dubai. But after a certain point it was too much for him. When he saw the dancer twirling his skirt for minutes in a row, he also started twirling around the tourists who were present. We could hardly stop him from getting up on stage, we basically dragged him out of there, and we calmed him down with another walk through the desert, watching the stars. He fell asleep in Radu’s arms and we improvised a bed for him from pillows, far away from the stage, lights and sounds. The parents tried out the Swedish buffet and the barbecue prepared, while the child was sleeping like a log. He missed out on the drive back, far less spectacular during the night. What you must consider if you choose to go to the desert, is that sunset also means it gets cold. It’s really chilly, so you must have an extra sweater with you. And I would also recommend this entire experience to families with older children, for starters because of the desert drive, and also because the show is loud and- if the child gets bored or falls asleep- you are tied to the group you arrived there with, so you can’t leave on your own until it’s over. Maybe only if you are part of a larger group, then you could have more independence.

To sump up, I must confess that Dubai was an extremely pleasant surprise to me. For years I have been avoiding this destination, thinking there is nothing else to do other than shopping in their famous malls. So for the 4 days spent there, I made a promise not to go into any of the malls, so I could experience everything else this destination has to offer. And I succeeded! It was sort of a personal ambition of mine, to visit Dubai outside of malls. And so I busted a myth, a traveler’s prejudice which I had, because this destination has offered me more than I had imagined.  Before going there, I had also found out that you can’t walk outside in Dubai, because it’s too hot and they have no sidewalks. False. During winter, the weather is very good, and walking with a stroller along the beach or in the Marina was very pleasant.

So I recommend Dubai especially to those who want to travel with the child/children. During the winter holidays, it’s pretty hard to find a destination, which is not too far- so you go crazy during the flight- and which is also safe, in all aspects. And Dubai fulfills all the requirements above and gives a lot to children and their parents.

In the pictures I am wearing: Cactus dress, & Other Stories sandals, Marc Jacobs bag.

Minunat.

La cele exotice eu as prefera sa i tin la bunici sa ma pot relaxa in voie ca meritam si noi ca parinti timpul nostru macar in 10 zile pe an. Va admir in schimb pe voi :)!
